Political Action

Sue Levy of the UAW

The Political Action Committee promotes progressive solutions to political issues at the local, state and national level. We believe that providing accurate information will lead our community and elected officials to understand the personal and collective benefits of supporting a progressive agenda. We believe that providing an outlet for informed citizens to be involved in the political process is the way to achieve the good government. We believe that like-minded people working to make good things happen is a satisfying way to come together.

The following Political Action subcommittees provide a variety of ways to become involved.

Organizing for America Listening TourOrganizing for America

We support President Obama's agenda through Organizing for America, the continuation of the historic Campaign for Change ground operation that helped elect Obama last year. OFA provides a network for grassroots groups such as Harbor Country Progress to realize the hope and change that inspired us to elect President Obama.

Local Government Meetings Project

In an effort to be informed and involved in government at the local level, Harbor Country Progress members are attending their local village, city, township, county and school district meetings. These members share their progressive viewpoint at the local level. They inform HCP of local issues that warrant our involvement. This committee will collect a history of issues and influential figures that will be useful to future candidates. Attending local meetings also identifies futures candidates for public office.

Letters to the Editor

This group provides encouragement, advice and inspiration to write letters to newspapers and to our elected officials promoting the progressive viewpoint. The group has bi-monthly meetings and networks by email.

Programs and Events

Planning programs for our General Membership Meetings and special events such as the Candidate Speakers Series and Forums on political issues is an important way that HCP educates its members and the community.

Field Work

The business of campaigning for a candidate or a political issue is field work. This includes canvassing, phone banking/voter ID, and mailings.
